Introduction

Normalizing a sensitive topic through design

Area 52 is a non-profit social club located in the heart of Tenerife. It was created to offer its members a safe and regulated environment for the production and personal use of cannabis. The project starts with a specific challenge: building an identity capable of handling an often controversial topic with maturity, lightness, and responsibility. In a context where the illegal market is still very common, the club presents itself as a controlled and transparent alternative, focused on protecting the health of its members. Design becomes a tool to legitimize, reassure, and position the brand in a way that matches its values.

Challanges

Inspiration from psychedelic culture to build a new narrative

The visual identity is inspired by the psychedelic aesthetics of the 60s, reinterpreted in a contemporary way. Fluid shapes, dynamic compositions, and a vibrant color palette create an energetic and immersive visual system. However, the goal is not to evoke nostalgia, but to create an expressive language that talks to a modern and conscious community. The tone of voice is informal and playful, but never superficial. The communication lightens the topic without making it trivial, maintaining a balance between expressive freedom and responsibility.

Final thoughts

Creating a flexible, adaptable, and highly recognizable system

The design solution is developed through a modular brand identity system, designed to adapt to the club's different touchpoints: social media, promotional materials, merchandising, and internal communication. The visual compositions, both surreal and dynamic, become distinctive elements that make the brand immediately recognizable. Area 52 is built as a visual space consistent with its philosophy: open, inclusive, and free from formal rigidity. The result is an identity that communicates belonging, safety, and contemporary culture.
